Installation of a gas fire pit in Swanland, East Yorkshire.
The client contacted MCS initially for advice regarding the feasability of installing a gas firepit during the creation of an outside entertainment area.

Client requirements:
- Aestecially pleasing installation.
- Low maintenance.
- Ease of use.
- Safe operation.
- Minimal pipework to be visible.
Following initial contact with the client, a site visit was arranged to look at the installation area and further gain understanding a to what would be required to complete safe installation.
The fire pit was to be gas fuelled with LPG, a gas which is denser than air. Therefore consideration had to be given to prevent pockets of unburnt gas from forming. The base of the fire pit was vented and the cavity space of the structure filled with insulation in order to remove any space where a large concentration of gas could form.
The fuel source being LPG also meant that the bottled gas also had to be sited a distance away from the fireplace, this involved installation of underground MDPE pipework and the fitting of automatic changover system to prevent gas outages between bottles.
The surround of the pit was constructed using a decorative facing brick and a slate edge surround. Stainless steel gas burner and matching control and ignition system was to be installed and recessed into the face of the pit to create a clean finish.
Simple maintenance was also essential, the client simply needs to remove the coals & vaccum the burner top once every 2-3 months.
