Top Tips To Check Your Heating Before Winter
As we reach winter, it is around the time our heating systems start to get switched on after a warm summer where they have not been needed.
It is getting closer to the time to switch the boiler back on and prepare to keep yourself warm over winter, but before the nights get too cold, it is worth checking on your heating system, in case there is a problem that may need boiler fitters to visit and solve.
To avoid being caught out, here are the top tips to making sure your heating system is ready for winter.
Bleed Your Radiators
Sometimes small air pockets and bubbles can form in the top of your radiator if you haven’t used it for a while. If you notice cold spots on your radiator, switch it off. After it cools down, turn a radiator key with a rag ready to catch any dripping water to let the air escape.
Wrap Your Pipes Up
One problem you see during the winter is condensate pipes that have frozen over, and since water expands when it freezes can lead to a burst pipe. Buy some pipe insulation and keep your water system from freezing over in the first place.
Keep Your Boiler From Seizing Up
Much like a car battery, your boiler can sometimes stop working if it hasn’t been used for a while. Run your central heating system at least one hour a day over winter, to make sure it runs smoothly. A lot of smart thermostats will do this automatically.
